The new year brings higher fines for not having TPO insurance

As from 1 January 2026, fines for not having motor TPO insurance will go up. This is the fallout of the minimum wage increase. The maximum fine will be PLN 14,420, i.e. PLN 420 more than in 2025.

TPO insurance is compulsory for every vehicle registered in Poland. It protects accident victims, covering bodily injury and property damage caused by the driver of the vehicle concerned. At the same time, it provides financial security for the driver who — thanks to the policy — does not have to pay for the damage out of their own pocket.

The amount of the fine for not having a valid TPO insurance policy depends on the type of vehicle, the period during which the owner has been uninsured and the minimum wage.

From January 2026, the minimum wage will be PLN 4,806 gross (up from PLN 4,666 in 2025). This will translate into higher fines for not having TPO insurance.
