Information for contributors and readers

Guidelines for contributors, Editorial Policy

  • The editorial office accepts texts submitted electronically only to the e-mail box address: wiad_ubezp@piu.org.pl.
  • The editors immediately acknowledge the receipt of an Author’s message and inform the Author that the text has been submitted for review.
  • The Editorial Board makes a preliminary assessment of the text’s compliance with the formal requirements of the journal, evaluates the scientific workshop and the text’s compliance with the principles of ethics and compliance with the subject matter and scientific profile of the journal “Wiadomości Ubezpieczeniowe”. Failure to make the text compliant with the above-mentioned evaluation criteria results in rejection of the article, of which the editors immediately inform the Author.
  • ” Wiadomości Ubezpieczeniowe ” accepts for publication only previously unpublished texts.
  • Authors are asked to submit materials of up to 40,000 characters in WORD format by e-mail. Glosses may contain up to 20,000 characters. In justified cases, upon consultation with the editors, works of greater volume may be published. The editors reserve the right to make abbreviations and editorial corrections without agreement with the Author.
  • Materials submitted for publication should comply with the guidelines attached below. If a paper contains graphs, please attach a separate Excel file with the data for their preparation. An article should be accompanied by an abstract and keywords, both in Polish and English, and a title in English (according to the rules specified in the template).
  • In order to ensure anonymity of the Author, the following information should be submitted in a separate file: forename and surname, address, academic and professional titles, position held and place of work (in the case of academics, indication of affiliation), e-mail address from a confirmed institutional domain (academic institution or law firm), contact phones and ORCID number.
  • The text of a paper must be accompanied by a communication, according to the template below, in which the Author declares that the paper is an original work, not published in another publication.

The editors respond only to e-mails sent from a confirmed institutional domain, i.e., bearing the address of an academic institution or law firm. In the absence of an e-mail address indicating the affiliation of the Author in question, confirmation of the Author’s identity and correspondence is required.  In other cases, messages will remain unanswered by the editors.

Procedure for reviewing articles

  • The procedure for reviewing articles follows the recommendations set forth by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the publication “Good practices in review procedures in science” („Dobre praktyki w procedurach recenzyjnych w nauce”; publication available on the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education).
  • Articles submitted to “Wiadomości Ubezpieczeniowe”, after preliminary approval of Editorial Board members, are sent for review. The reviewers are specialists in a particular area of knowledge.
  • Submitted scientific articles are evaluated by two independent (i.e., with scientific affiliation different than the Author) reviewers, with the Authors and reviewers remaining anonymous (the so-called “double-blind review process”). In the case of submission of a glossary or case law review, the text is evaluated by one independent reviewer. Non-scientific materials (including conference reports, book reviews, memoirs and other materials) are subject to one review by a member of the Editorial Board.
  • Each article is reviewed by at least one external reviewer, i.e., a person outside the journal’s Scientific Board and Editorial Board. A member of the Editorial Board has the right to review a text if he or she has the appropriate knowledge and it is justified in terms of content.
  • Reviewers evaluate the article according to the criteria included in the review form and, based on this, formulate one of the following conclusions:
    • to publish the submission in its current form,
    • to publish the submission after taking into account the comments included in the review,
    • to publish the submission after rewriting and re-reviewing,
    • not to accept the submission for publication.
  • In the case of conflicting opinions of reviewers, the Editorial Board appoints a third reviewer (also anonymous) and only after their opinion makes a decision on publication.
  • Authors receive reviews in written form, maintaining the anonymity of reviewers.
  • The list of reviewers is published once a year, after the announcement of the last issue of a given year, on the editor’s website.
  • The approximate review time is two months – in justified cases it can be extended, of which the Editorial Board informs the Author.
  • After receiving two reviews, the reviews are sent immediately to the Author, and upon receipt of the revised text, the editors assess whether the reviewers’ comments have been duly taken into account by the Author of the text.

The editors do not charge any fees for publication in the “Wiadomości Ubezpieczeniowe” journal. Authors of texts do not pay any fees for their publication (APCs). Published content is available online in the open access system – free of charge and without any grace period.
