The Government Security Centre informed today about intense, torrential rainfall forecast for 8-10.07.2025. Over Poland a Genoa low is approaching – a dangerous low-pressure air mass from northern Italy. It is time to think about the safety of yourself and your property, as well as to make sure that property insurance provides real protection.
How to protect against storm effects?
Before the storm:
- Follow weather forecasts and RCB alerts.
- Close windows and doors, disconnect electronic equipment.
- Secure outdoor items that the wind might carry away.
- Check the roof, gutters and lightning protection system.
- Move your car away from terrain depressions and from under trees.
- Stay at home if possible.
After damage:
- Protect the property against further damage.
- Take photos of the damage. Photographs taken with a phone will suffice.
- Do not repair anything yourself without consulting the insurer.
- Report the claim as quickly as possible – by phone, online, however is convenient for you. Prepare your policy number
and bank account. - Leave damaged items until the adjuster arrives.
Regardless of weather phenomena today or tomorrow, think about protecting yourself and your property:
Natural disasters will intensify. It is therefore worth checking your policy today, talking
to your agent and making sure you are adequately protected. Insurance is not just a piece of paper – it is real help in life’s most difficult moments.
Extreme weather phenomena that were rare just a few years ago are becoming commonplace today.
Do you have a policy? Great – but is it sufficient?
Insurance is an effective financial tool that compensates for the losses caused by extreme weather events.
Many people have home or flat insurance, but not everyone checks its scope and sum insured. Does the policy cover only walls, or also equipment? Will the sum insured allow rebuilding the house after a serious disaster? – these are just example questions worth asking yourself.
The phenomenon of the so-called insurance gap – i.e. a situation where the sum insured does not reflect the real value of the insured property, and thus the policy payout will not cover the entire loss – is a real problem. According to the PIU report “Poles and risk – how do we insure ourselves?” in 2022, the insurance gap concerning natural disasters in Poland amounted to as much as PLN 1.3 billion.
When buying a policy, pay attention to the insurance scope and ensure that it covers not only walls and fixed elements at the house, but also movables (e.g. large household appliances, radio and TV equipment, furniture). Determine the appropriate sum insured which will allow you to rebuild your house or buy a flat of a similar standard in extreme circumstances of a similar standard. Remember that the value of your property may increase – take this into account when renewing the insurance contract.
